College Music Revisited

For reasons unknown, I was feeling nostalgic for college this morning.

Not the whole "I have no money and study all the time and I really want to get out of here and get a job" part of it all, but the music part -- that's what I was missing.

As I listened to some old favorites, I realized that in many cases, the music I listen to know is kind of just an update of the tracks that were spinning when I was a naive, fresh-faced sophomore. Observe:
  • Birds and Batteries "After a Flood" is the new TV on the Radio - "Wolf Like Me": Hipster one-hit wonders never die, they just shape-shift into new bands that are barely distinguishable from one another.
  • Feist "How Come You Never Go There" is the new Feist "Mushaboom": Yes, I am basically saying that Feist is the new Feist.
  • Beach House "Walk in the Park" is the new Keane "Somewhere Only We Know": Evidently, I will never, ever tire of music that makes me sad.
  • Snow Patrol "Just Say Yes" is the new The Killers "Bones", "When You Were Young" and "Human": Make no mistake -- I still love The Killers. It's just that I have an incredibly high capacity for romantic ballads. (Also, not all those songs from The Killers came out when I was in college, but I still consider it college music. Because I just do.)
  • Little Boots "Love Kills" is the new Goldfrapp "Ooh La La": British women with sultry, smoky voices will get me Every. Single. Time.
